President-elect General Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday attended his first political rally in Lagos State, since winning the presidential elections, where he assured that the state will be given priority attention when his administration takes off.
Buhari who addressed teeming supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the political rally held in Orile Iganmu area of the state, noted that he decided to come to Lagos for the campaign to thank them and let them know that the state is too critical to lose to the opposition in the forthcoming Saturday polls.
He was joined at the rally ground by some stalwarts of the party including its National Chairman Chief John Oyegun, a former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Abdurrahman Dambazau (rtd) , Senator Chris Ngige, Chief Audu Ogbeh, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers , Lagos State Governor Mr. Babatunde Fashola , among others.
In his few remarks, Buhari said, “Before the elections, Fashola informed me of the huge funds spent by the state government to maintain the federal infrastructures in the state. And I told him that if I win the elections, I will give it priority.
“I am here to thank you for voting me as your President and other candidates of the APC. I am asking you to defy all odds and ensure that you troop out and cast your vote for the APC candidates on Saturday.
“Lagos is too important for APC to lose. I am giving you this assignment because the billions of Naira of Nigeria’s investment cannot be joked with. Don’t attempt to be on the wrong side of the centre. We are now the centre.
“I am extremely impressed with what Tinubu has done in terms of mobilizing revenue to sustain Lagos development. I have a lot of respect for Fashola for his hard work and commitment to the state and the country. There is no doubt Lagos is a mini-Nigeria. Every ethnic is represented in the state.
“I assure you that if you vote for APC in Lagos; you stand to benefit individually more than collectively. It is in your interest to vote for our party.
“When you get home tell your friends, relatives and those in the opposition to vote for our candidates in Lagos.”
Harping on controversy generated by comments credited to Oba of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu at the rally the National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu said political authority and monarchy were far apart blaming certain individuals for taking political matters to monarchs for hearing and settlements in order to cause confusion.
