Lagos doctors end warning strike

A visit to some of the hospitals, including Gbagada General hospital, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH , revealed that the doctors, who had been absent from their duty posts, had resumed work. Many of the doctors were seen attending to patients at the various hospitals.
Although patients load was low, some of the medical staff, who spoke anonymously, told Sunday Vanguard that the low turnout was not only because of the strike but also the fact that it was already weekend.
The strike started on Wednesday.
Ending the strike, the Chairman, Medical Guild, Dr Olumiyiwa Odusote, said the decision to suspend the strike was due to the intervention of well – meaning Lagosians.
Odusote expressed hope that the government will be moved by the warning strike to do what is expected of them.
Secretary of the Association of Resident Doctors, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Dr. Lanre Shodipo, disclosed that the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity invited the Medical Guild and officials of Lagos State government to mediate in the matter, “though the Medical Guild is yet to receive any letter from the state government after the talk” he said. It was gathered that the doctors had no intention of pursuing the strike but hoped that the government will live up to expectation.
