Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has said that furniture for the two complexes of the House of Assembly will cost N80 million.
The governor, who spoke during the commissioning of the Speaker’s office, said the complexes were designed to ensure conducive atmosphere for legislation.
The governor said renovation of the speaker’s office and those of the 40 members of the House of Assembly gulped N161. 6 million.
“We have provided favourable atmosphere for legislators to work, so we expect them to make good laws for peace and socio-economic development of our state,” the governor said.
He expressed satisfaction with the election of principal officers in the House of Assembly, saying it was free of rancour.
“I am impressed with the way legislators are carrying the public along in the law making process. I’m assuring you that this administration will encourage and motivate you to continue in this direction,” Ganduje was quoted as saying in a statement by his Director General, Media and Communications, Alhaji Halilu Dantiye.
Governor Ganduje also urged the lawmakers to step up efforts in budget tracking so as to help the government ensure realistic implementation. In his address, Speaker of the Assembly, Kabiru Alhasan Rurum, said the projects had boosted the confidence of the state legislature.
He, however, appealed to the state government to renovate dilapidated structures within the Assembly complex, so as not to rubbish the beauty of the new buildings.
