Acting President Goodluck Jonathan Monday moved against the  ‘cabal’ undermining him by sacking the national security adviser (NSA)  Saki Muktar and replacing him with General Aliyu Gusau (retired)

The return of Aliyu Gusau, a retired General from the Hausa-Fulani bloc who served as national security adviser to former President Olusegun Obasanjo indicates that finally the Acting President maight be moving towards consolidating his hold on power.

Gusau, contested with President Umaru  Yar’Adua for  PDP’s presidential ticket  in 2007 and came second in the primaries. He had since  remained a powerful kingmaker in the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

While no reason was given for Mukhtar sack. Investigations reveal that Acting President Jonathan’s resolve to move the Country forward had been hampered by the sabotage of Yar’Adua faceless ‘kitchen cabinet’including some Ministers who at every point sought  to undermine Jonathan’s authority as acting head of state in a bid to retain their influence at the heart of  government
