Jega was in Kazaure to attend a marriage at the Emir’s palace. However, trouble started immediately after the ceremony when the guests, one of whom the CPC Presidential candidate General Muhammadu Buhari, began leaving.

Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Professor Attahiru Jega weekend escaped a mob attack in Kazaure, Jigawa State when some angry youths ambushed and stoned his convoy.

It was at this stage that the crowd thundered “sai Buhari”(we want Buhari)and “sai mai gaskiya”(Buhari is the trusted leader) among other slogans.

The incidence occurred on Saturday at the Wedding Fatiha of the Emir of Kazaure’s daughter.

An eye witness, Malam Abdullahi told  reporters  that while the INEC Chairman was leaving the venue, he was booed and called unprintable names while the security detail attached to him quickly whisked him away.

Abdullahi added that it took the quick intervention of the police and other security operatives to disperse the youths before he could exit from the city.

It was while he was being whisked away that some of the youths pelted his convoy with stones, breaking the glasses of some of the vehicles.

However, when contacted the state’s Police Commissioner, Mr Kayode Theophilous, who was as at the time of the Kazaure incidence, with Governor Sule Lamido and his Katsina State counterpart in Hadejia, stated that he did not receive any report of any crisis at Kazaure.

“The report we have is that there was a wedding Fatiha for the emirs’ daughter which was attended by important personalities and it ended peacefully,” he said.
