The Theater Command of Operation Lafiya Dole of the Nigerian Army on Friday alerted Borno residents on a planned attack by Boko Haram terrorists using beggars and other strategies.

The Media Coordinator of the Theater, Col. Mustapha Anka, made this known in a statement in Maiduguri.Anka said, “the attention of the Operation Lafiya Dole has been drawn to a terrorists’ intention to use beggars to cause mayhem in the state.

“Under the plan, concealed explosives in bundles of firewood are to be placed in crowded and strategic areas of Maiduguri and environs to cause havoc.”

He said that the terrorists had also devised a new means of attracting the public by shouting Boko Haram to create panic.

“Additionally, the general public should be weary of a terrorists plan to deceive the public by way of shouting `Boko Haram’ to create panic in order to lure unsuspecting public for maximum casualty while detonating their bombs during and after the new year celebrations,” Anka said. Read More →

Says 2016 is year of change

ABUJA — Taking note of the hard times in the land, President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, said becoming president had not removed him from the pains of the people, promising that 2016 would be the beginning of the change in the country.

While noting what he claimed as unforeseen circumstances and distractions since his inauguration, President Buhari reassured Nigerians that the difficulties were temporary, saying he was determined to fulfil the promises he made prior to the election.

The Nigerian Army, on Monday called for greater vigilance by Nigerians to track down Boko Haram members it declared wanted recently.

This is contained in a statement issued by the acting Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.

“The Nigerian Army would like to reiterate the need for all well-meaning Nigerians and those residing in our great country to be more vigilant.“We also solicit the assistance of citizens to furnish security agencies with information about the declared wanted terrorists, their sponsors and other criminals in our midst,” the statement said. Another suspected Boko Haram sponsor, Aliyu Hussaini, who has also been parading himself as a military brigadier general has been arrested.

The Nigerian Army in a statement on Tuesday said that Hussaini was arrested by soldiers of the 33rd Artillery Brigade in Bauchi State during a raid.The statement read, “The 33 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, has recorded another landmark success in the ongoing Operation Zaman Lafiyah as troops of the brigade Aliyu-Hussainirecently arrested one Aliyu Hussaini, popularly known as Colonel, a suspected Boko Haram terrorist and an Impostor who has been parading himself as a Brigadier-General in the Nigerian Army.

“The troops, who were acting on a tip-off, said Aliyu Hussaini was a sponsor and also a member of the Boko Haram terrorist organisation. (They) carried out a raid operation, which led to the successful arrest of Aliyu and another suspected Boko Haram member, one Ibrahim Mohammed, who is also known as Yuram. Read More →


Three militants of the Boko Haram group died on Tuesday when a bomb they were transporting exploded in Niger’s Far East region of Diffa, local sources said.

The bomb exploded when they were about to enter Bosso town, one of the sources told newsmen, adding that the militants were planning to carry out an attack.

On Sunday, 10 people, among them one soldier, five civilians and four suicide bombers, were killed in two separate suicide attacks by Boko Haram in Diffa. Read More →
