Kaduna State governor-elect, Malam Nasir El-Rufa’i, yesterday said his administration would not spare any official found guilty of stealing public funds.
He spoke in Kaduna shortly after receiving the report of the APC Transition Committee. He said he would not condone indiscipline, adding that any public official found guilty of stealing money would be made to return it. He said government would be forced to take severe actions against recalcitrant officials.
“This report is the beginning. we are trying to understand the government and see what has been left behind and we will see some more, I have said this and I will say it again, no one will take away the resources of this state without consequences. We are not going to let it happen. There will be full accountability for every penny that accrues to this state and any one that has taken the money for this state will he asked politely to return it and if he doesn’t, we will take actions that are not necessarily polite.
“I am determined to do this, this state has gone through trauma, development has suffered, resources have not been applied efficiently and effectively and we are not going to draw a line and say the past is the past, the past will be the future”, he said. He added that some members of the committee would be given appointments in the incoming government.
He said the previous PDP led government “almost succeeded in putting Kaduna into the grave.”
Earlier, chairman of the committee, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, said the outgoing government failed either to cooperate with the committee or provide it the required information. He said the incoming leaders would face financial difficulties and advised them to explore more sources of finance.
