Walking the red-carpet at the awards night, all eyes were turned and fixed on the celebrities and TV executives particularly from Nigeria. Among them were Psquare who looked splendid in their designer’s suits, 2face, Don Jazzy, D’banj, Davido, Flavour, OC Ukeje, Wizkid, Patoranking, and Yemi Alade.
Others popular faces included Dare Art-Alade, Bonang Matheba, South Africa’s singer, AKA, HHP, Chameleone, Dreamteam, HHP, Riky Rick, Samini, Bebe Cool, Mpumi, Jovi, Uhuru and Vanessa Mdee, OAP Toolz, MTV Shuga star and Mr Nigeria Emmanuel Ikbese, BET “Top Actor” winner Altovise Lawrence, Miss South Africa Liesl Laurie, Boity, Khuli Chana, Joselyn Dumas, Jessica Nkosi, actress Zikhona Sodlaka, and MTV Base VJs Sizwe, Nomuzi, Ehiz and Sandile.
Despite fencing them off indiscriminately in a waist-high steel pen alongside the red carpet, TV, print, and online media media journalists stopped at nothing to get snap interviews and quick shots of the celebrities. The highpoint of the night was the presentation of awards which saw Nigeria dominating this year’s MAMA again with seven awards.
Artiste of the Decade and Group award went to P-Square; D’Banj (Mama Evolution), Mavins (Song of the Year), Patoranking (Best New Act), Davido (Best Male Act) and Yemi Alade (Best female Act). But a glowing stint came from D’banj and Artist of the Decade winners, P-Square, featuring hit tracks “Personally” and “Shekini.” D’banj’s performing his “O’liver Twist” song set the stage on fire, leaving the audience yearning for more. Another memorable performances at the event was the surprise performance involving American singer Ne-Yo and songbird, Seyi Shay.
