Hoddle Metsu lead in Eagles 2 – Horse race

PTF Favours England Boss To 1998 World Cup NFF Prefer Former Senegal Coach Financial Demands May Determine Winner Hoddle Wants 3 Foreign Assistants, Metsu One

Former England Manager, Glen Hoddle and former Senegal coach, Bruno Metsu, are in a two horse race to land the Super Eagles top job for the South Africa 2010 World Cup.
The Englishman and his French counterpart dazzled the NFF and Sports Ministry officials during the interview session in Abuja, during the outgoing week a situation that is now somehow puzzling to the Nigerian officials in making their final choice.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officials are understood to have soft spot for the Senegal coach to the 2002 World Cup finals in Korea/Japan, Bruno Metsu.
The Glass House egg-heads believe that Metsu’s wide knowledge of African football should give him an edge over other contenders, including Hoddle.
But the Sports Ministry who will pull the financial strings as regards the payment of the new Super Eagles coach holds a different view
Complete Sports reportedly gathered that at a point, during Hoddle’s presentation, Dr. Patrick Ekeji, Director-General of the National Sports Commission, NSC, even clapped his hands.

Against the backdrop of NFF’s belief that Metsu’s African experience should sway victory to his side, Ekeji reportedly rhetorically demanded to know whether Metsu was already in Africa before taking up the Senegal job.
However Complete Sports gathered that other factors may decide the eventual winner aside qualification and experience.
Such factors, it was gathered, include the financial demands of the coaches. Others include hiring of their own foreign assistants.

At this juncture, Complete Sports can report that an apparently desperate Bruno Metsu merely demanded for just one foreign assistant while declaring his resolve to work with Nigeria assistants.
However, Hoddle demand led for three foreign assistants, apparently a goalkeepers trainer, a physical trainer and an assistant coach.
