OSOGBO – Government activities were paralysed in Osun as workers commenced indefinite strike over non payment of six months salary arrears.
who monitored the situation, reports that the gate of the state secretariat, local government offices and public schools were under lock and key.
Mr Jacob Adekomi the state chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress addressed a press conference during which he called on the workers to commence the strike on Tuesday.
He said the call came at the end of a 14-day ultimatum given to the government to pay the salary arrears.
In his reaction to the strike, a civil servant, Mr. Taofik Eleshinla, told newsmen that workers would not resume work until arrears of salary were paid.
He criticized the government for denying workers their entitlement.
A security man at the secretariat of Olorunda Local Government, who spoke newsmen under condition of anonymity, said that all staff of the council complied with the call.
He said none of the workers came to work except for some liason officers who came to attend to youth corp members.
Some students were seen playing in front of the premises of some secondary schools in Osogbo visited by newsmen.
At Ataoja High School, some students who spoke newsmen, said they were not allowed to enter the school premises.
