A yet-to-be identified electoral officer has lost her life while another was seriously injured in a road mishap that occured in Oju area of Benue State yesterday.
The incident happened along Obussa-Ebonyi road around 7:45 am.Peoples Daily weekend learnt from the Public Relations’ Officer of INEC, Mr. Louis Ochai that the adhoc staff( not a corp member) was on her way to her assigned polling unit when the incident happened.
According to him, the Okada rider was speeding excessively when the head of the motorcycle suddenly pulled off and both of them fell on the ground and died instantly.
Meanwhile, Senate President Sen. David Mark has decried the malfunctioning of the card readers in most part of State particularly in Otukpo local government area.
Sen. Mark who made the lamentation after casting his vote at Otukpo Club Polling unit, blamed INEC for not carrying out enough test running as well as sensitization of its staff on the workability of the card readers and other electoral functions.
“It is sad that the card readers have disappointed. INEC should done test running of the machine for a long time before using them for the election. I received so many calls that the card readers failed so you could imagine the frustration of electorates. But apart from these complaints, the election has been generally peaceful”, Mark said.
