Super Eagles second choice goalkeeper, Dele Aiyenugba, has boasted that Lionel Messi, the world footballer of the year, would be well taken care when Nigeria clash with Argentina in their group opening match at the World Cup in South Africa.
Speaking from his base in Israel, Aiyenugba said that Messi is in a terrific form now but that he was stoppable and that the Super Eagles would stop him and his Argentine team come June 12 at the World Cup.
“Messi is good and is in a great form but I want to say that he alone cannot play the whole field, it is going to be 11 players each side and the team that does its home work well and are more determined will carry the day. We are not afraid of Messi no matter his form
“I think we can stop Argentina this time around if we keep Messi quiet when we meet. He will be a hard nut to crack but he is not unstoppable if we get our acts together. They should worry about how to tackle us without any world class star.
“All the teams in our group are good and any two can progress to the next round but I have this firm belief that the Eagles would go all the way to the semi- finals if the spirit is high and we are determined to succeed. In football, everything is possible, so don’t rule us out” said the Hapoel Tel Aviv FC’s safest hands
On the appointment of Lars Lagerback as the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles, Aiyenugba said the hiring of a foreign coach is good and that they were looking forward to working with him, adding that the Eagles should have done better in Angola but for the lack of concentration during the championship
The Enyimba FC’s former goalkeeper said that he was eyeing a move to bigger clubs in Europe but expressed happiness at being in Israel for now.
