Libyan President, Muammar Gaddafi has called for the splitting of Nigeria into two to avoid further bloodshed between Muslims and Christians, Libyan leader.
In a speech to a group of students, he praised the example of India and Pakistan, where he said partition saved many lives.
He said: “Splitting Nigeria would stop the bloodshed and burning of places of worship.”
Gaddafi’s suggestion is not surprising, given his past utterances.
Last year, he called for Switzerland to be abolished and for its land to be divided between Italy, Germany and France.
Col Gaddafi, until recently head of the African Union (AU), characterised the Jos violence as a “deep conflict of religious nature” caused by the federal state, “which was made and imposed by the British in spite of the people’s resistance to it”.
He described the partition of India as a “historic, radical solution” which saved the lives of “millions of Hindus and Muslims”.
An attempt by the old Eastern Region to secede in 1967 sparked a war which left more than one million people dead.
It will be recalled that recently, the United States (US) predicted that Nigeria will divide in 2011. Also, founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Babatunde Ayodele also predicted that Nigeria will split into three ethnic groups.
He said: “There will be problem in Nigeria in future in which the flag and the name will change. I see that the Green-White-Green (flag) will go. I’m not telling you precisely how soon it will be. I see three nations coming out of Nigeria and settling down in different places. One will be stronger than the others and people will apply for visa to enter the stronger nation. How it will come I don’t know.”
