A Delta State High Court sitting in Ughelli, the administrative headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Council has ordered the immediate arrest and subsequent detention of the Principal Officer, Ughelli District of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, Mr. Pius Ajeh at the Okere Prison in Warri for seven days for contempt of court.
Honourable Justice Ebiowei Tobi of the Ughelli High Court II, who handed the order, said Mr Ajeh, who is representing BEDC as a defendant in suit no. UHC/193/2015 failed to obey a court order in February 23rd, 2015 directing him to reconnect the premises of one Mr. Ilesha-Yovwe Udoro, plaintiff which he had earlier disconnected.
The court maintained that the action of the Ughelli BEDC’s Principal Officer amounts to disobedience and disrespect thus he should be remanded in Okere prison to purge himself of the contempt.
“I hereby order that Mr Pius Ajeh be arrested and detained at the Okere Prison Warri for seven days so that he be purged of his contempt and thereafter be brought before me on June 25th, 2015. The DPP of Ughelli police station is hereby ordered to carry out the above order”, Justice Tobi declared.
