THE All Progressives Congress (APC) is working round-the-clock to increase the number of states in its control by adding at least two oil-producing states in the South-South geo-political zone, Nigerian Tribune has gathered.
The party, it was learnt, is keen on retaining Rivers and winning the governorship election in Delta State as well as majority seats in the Ondo State House of Assembly.
Part of APC’s strategy to win Delta, Tribune reliably gathered, was to mobilise bloc votes from Urhobo people for its governorship candidate, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, who hails from Delta North senatorial district peopled mainly by the Urhobos.
To achieve this, the APC leaders in the state were said to have opened discussion with Chief Great Ogboru, governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) who had been endorsed by the Urhobo Progressives Union (UPU) as its consensus candidate.
A massive war chest was said to have been provided by both the APC and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the election coming this weekend.
“As far as the APC is concerned, winning at least two-oil-producing states is an icing on the cake for them, having won the central government. But the PDP is aware of their plan and we are mobilising against such agenda.”
