For the first time ever, traders of the Igbo-dominated Alaba International Market in Lagos shut their stores to express solidarity and throw their weight behind the gubernatorial candidacy of Akinwunmi Ambode, the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate in the state.
Accompanied by an APC campaign train that had Vice-President elect, Professor Yemi Osinbajo on board, Ambode was greeted with cheers from the excited traders in an overwhelming fashion, as his train moved through the market.
One of the leaders of the Industrial Market Union of the Alaba Market said the decision to close their shops to gather in support for Ambode, was borne out their unanimous resolve to contribute to the sustained progress and prosperity of Lagos.
Ambode expressed appreciation for the outpouring of support from the Alaba landlords, and promised a Lagos where dividends of governance will be given without discrimination. He then stressed that a vote for him and the APC in the gubernatorial poll is a vote for Lagos, as that will make the state get even better in terms of growth and development.
