THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC has disclosed that 6,050 candidates from the different political parties would be contesting in today’s governorship and House of Assembly elections across 26 states in the federation.
According to the commission’s daily bulletin made available to journalists in Abuja, on Friday, of this number, 760 candidates are contesting for governorship, while 5,290 are contesting for seats in the state Houses of Assembly.
The governorship election will hold in 29 states while it will not in eight states of Anambra, Bayelsa, Edo, Ondo, Osun, Ekiti Kogi and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja
The bulletin stated that ahead of the today’s elections, the commission had taken measures to address challenges of late arrival of materials and workers at some polling units across the country and the seeming lack of proficiency in the use of the Smart Card Reader (SCR) by some ad-hoc staff, which characterised the presidential and National Assembly elections.
