WARRI- ONE person lost his life, while about 17 natives of Uzere in Isoko South Local Government Area of Delta State escaped death, weekend, when the bus they were travelling in from Warri to their country home after attending the sitting of Judiciary Panel probing into the crisis in the community, ran into into a ditch.
The 18-seater bus reportedly rammed into a trench after the driver lost control in a bid to avert a head-on-collision with an oncoming lorry.
A villager identified as Emu died in the accident.
The panel is sitting at Government House Annex, Warri, a long distance from Uzere , where the crisis broke out, last year, after peaceful protest by youths against Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company, SNEPECo.
The villagers have been travelling from Uzere to Warri, on a daily basis , since last week Thursday, when the panel, headed by Justice Sylvester Ehiwario commenced sitting.
President-General of the kingdom, Chief Emeakpor Owhe, had earlier pleaded that the venue of the sitting be relocated for logistics and security reasons.
His words, “Though we commend the government for setting up the panel, we are asking that the sitting should be relocated to Isoko because of security reasons and the difficulty in transporting our people to this place every time the panel sits.”
But it was for the same security reason that the panel is sitting in Warri.
